Cheapest Time to Visit Bali? (2026 Guide)

The cheapest time to visit Bali is January to March. Travel + Leisure calls these rainy-season months the most affordable, because they fall outside the festive season. Hotel prices tend to be lower then because demand is low.

Quick answer

Flights follow a similar pattern. February, March or November offer the cheapest flights, and January to March is the lowest airfare season. Condé Nast Traveler widens the window to October through March, the rainy or “low” season. Prices spike again between Christmas and New Year.

Avoid July, August and the Christmas to New Year stretch. Condé Nast Traveler names these as peak season.

Bali Season by Season: Where Prices Rise and Fall

Bali has two main seasons. Travel + Leisure puts the dry season at April to October and the wet season at November to March. Kuoni draws the line differently, with wet from October to March and dry from April to September. The edges of the seasons are fuzzy, so plan around the core months.

Travel + Leisure lists July to August and December as high seasons. April to June and September to November are shoulder seasons. Quiet shoulder months can also bring lower prices.

Demand explains the pattern. Kuoni notes that peak season matches European summer holidays, so July and August bring more visitors. Most travellers go between April and September.

One caution applies. Bali is reasonable year-round, so there is no truly cheap or expensive season. Expect savings, not a dramatic drop.

What the Cheap Months Feel Like

Low-season weather is hot and wet, not cold. Kuoni expects 26-29°C through the year, cooling only slightly around Ubud and the mountains. In February, it describes hot, humid days with intense bursts of tropical rain.

The sea can be rough. February reduces diving and snorkelling visibility around West Bali National Park. If water sports are the point of your trip, the low season is a poor fit.

The rain is rarely constant, though. Condé Nast Traveler quotes specialist Lauren Benson, who says the island still gets periods of lovely clear weather in these months. Showers often pass quickly.

Hikers should plan differently. Travel + Leisure says the rainy season can make trails muddy and slippery. Roads can also be treacherous in the rain for anyone on a rented motorbike.

Cheap Flights: When and How

Flights are often the largest single cost. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are often the cheapest days to fly. It also advises avoiding school holidays and festive periods.

AirAsia, Scoot and Jetstar are budget-friendly airlines to Bali. Use Skyscanner or Google Flights to track prices over time. Fare alerts help you catch a drop.

Within Indonesia, Batik Air and Citilink fly from Jakarta to Bali.

Low-Season Sightseeing That Costs Little

Rainy days suit museums and temples with short visits.

The pricier art museums sit higher. Ubud has several of these sights close together, so a rainy day there can stay cheap.

Food keeps costs down too. Local warungs serve meals under $2. It names Ubud, Canggu and Sanur as affordable areas to stay.

The Compromise: Shoulder Months

You may want better weather without peak prices. Condé Nast Traveler names April to May and September to October as the sweet spot, with good weather and the least crowds. Hotels are quieter and usually have high-value offers on nightly rates.

May, June and September are also ideal months. For waterfalls, April to June works best, when the cascades are strong after the wet season.

Peak months bring real friction. Kuoni says beach hotels in Sanur and Seminyak are likely to be busy in July. Condé Nast Traveler warns of waits of around two hours at Denpasar airport immigration in peak season.

How much time do you need in Bali?

Condé Nast Traveler shares a first-timer route from specialist Jacqueline Mattes. It runs two days in Uluwatu, four days in Ubud and three days at a beach such as Canggu or Seminyak. That adds up to nine days.

How much does it cost to go to Bali?

There is no single trip total, so build your own from the parts. Meals at local warungs run under $2. Sight entry fees are listed above, and flights and rooms drop in January to March.

Bottom line

For the lowest prices, aim for January to March, or November if you want flights outside peak demand. Accept heat, humidity and rain in return. Skip July, August and the Christmas to New Year period.

If you want sun and moderate prices, choose a shoulder month. May, June and September are the picks from Kuoni. Keep a few indoor stops from the list above for wet afternoons.
